Next morning drive to Jaipur & check in to the hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 05 - JAIPUR

The beautiful city of Jaipur epitomizes the spirit of Rajputana. Popularly known as the Pink City because of the extensive use of the locally abundant pink plastered stone. Start the day with a visit to the Amber Fort Palace and enjoy a ride on the back of a decorated elephant to the top of the fort. Next stop will be the City Palace- a delightful blend of Mughal and traditional Rajasthani architecture followed by Jantar Mantar- a 18th century observatory. You can finish the day by visiting Hawa Mahal- the ‘palace of winds’. In the evening enjoy an excursion to Chowki Dhani for a taste of Rajasthani cuisine.

Morning drive to Bharatpur. Upon arrival check-in at hotel and later proceed to visit the Bharatpur Bird sanctuary with naturalist to see the beautiful species of birds. Evening free to explore.

Depart for Agra visiting Fatehpur Sikri en route, the now deserted city built by Emperor Akbar. Though the city took 15 years to build, it was abandoned after only 14 years because the water supply was unable to sustain the growing population. The surviving palace and mosque are a tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The next stop will be the world famous Taj Mahal -The world famous mausoleum of Shah Jahan’s wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj has been aptly described by the great Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore as a teardrop on the face of time.

This will be followed by the Red Fort- which is 2.5 km northwest of the Taj Mahal. This is referred to as the most important fort in India. All great Mughal Emporers such as Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jehangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb lived here. It is a perfect testament to the glory of the Mughal Empire. The last monument for the day will be Etmad Ud Daulah a Mughal mausoleum often described as a 'Jewel box' & also referred to sometimes as the 'Baby Tāj'. In the evening you are free to explore the magical markets of Agra & enjoy the cultural show- Mohabbat the Taj.

Leave Agra for Jhansi by train. Arrive in Jhansi & proceed to Khajuraho by road. En route Visit the medieval city of Orccha which is situated on a seasonal island on the bank of the Betwa River & is home to a huge Palace Fort. Notable buildings include the Rajmandir & The Jahangir Mahal which is considered to be a singularly beautiful specimen of domestic Hindu architecture. Numerous cenotaphs or chhatris dot the vicinity of the fort and the Betwa river.

The next day indulge in a City tour of the temples of Khajuraho. Khajuraho was the capital of the Chandela kings and its temples were built in the short span of a hundred years, from 950-1050 AD. Most of them were destroyed by invaders. Adorned with exquisite sculpture, only 22 temples remain of the original 85. They are the strange works of a long dead people. Khajurahos temples are covered with hundreds of sculptured figures - a galaxy of gods and goddesses, beasts and serpents, and a multitude of erotic couples. The most famous are the Kandariya Mahadev, the Chaturbhuj, the Paraswanath and the Ghantai.

Depart for Varanasi by air & transfer to hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure. In the evening you can witness the Aarti ceremony at the Ghats.
